Inauguration Of The PoliticalCripple.com Lollipop Awards
It is interesting what happens when a few naughty children get out of their playpens and start to do adult things!
On the other hand, if an adult is doing adult things and is then treated like a child, that is far less than charming!
|
If a child is seen to be playing grown up, some lipstick and rouge and running round in mummy's clothes … well it's seen as endearing and charming. Out comes the camera and snaps are taken for the family album.
There seems to be a wrong headed attitude from some people to the Disabled. Some see us as naughty children and when we do adult things we get patronised.
Call a charity and ask what is their position on the Green Paper - Shaping the Future of Care Together – and you are told not to worry. You ask if clients of the charity – the stakeholders – have been consulted and you are told “NO. They would not be interested”.

If you then ask if the supposedly disinterest have been asked for an opinion – well you get a lecture on how they ( the clients ) have better things to do. They are given day trips to distract them and they are far too busy making baskets and sitting in a day centre watching the Fish Tank!
You are then told that you need to stop thinking about things, doing things and run along! It's as if you are patted on the head and handed a lollipop! Oh are you upset? Have a sweetie!
You get the same from people in the media, local authorities. In fact it seems endemic!
Patronizing an adult is ever so rude!
Well it seems that the best way to deal with such patronizing attitudes is to re-educate and encourage some to do better. To achieve this the PoliticalCripple has inaugurated the Lollipop Awards for the most Patronising person or organisation where disabled people are targeted!
The closing date for nominations is 13 November 2009, and we intend to have a gala awards night at a swanky London Hotel with all the award winners invited to come and get their Lollipop!
They can also be patted on the head and told to run along as part of the show! |
