Petition For The Preservation of Disability Living Allowance and Attendance Allowance

We the undersigned state to the Prime Minister and the Government of The United Kingdom of Great Britain And Northern Ireland that we do not and shall not agree with the abolition of Disability Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance.

Proposals to have Disability Benefits integrated into “Local Authority Care Budgets” will restrict the freedom of Disabled People and their carers, cause increased bureaucracy and administration. Disabled People would lose choice and be again subjected to statutory interference in their lives.

These Benefits empower disabled people to be independent, to purchase care and support in ways that can never be replaced by centralised, administered systems.

Disabled people have fought to escape from the constraints of state sanctioned discrimination, and in this Disability Living Allowance and Attendance Allowance have been the greatest financial tool to escape. We do not welcome or accept any attempt by the present or any future government to reduce our independence or act so as to reduce or curtail the freedoms that we enjoy.

Disabled people are “Experts” in living their lives and expert in the care they need - care which empowers them to live better and higher quality lives.

We wish to make it know that the expertise that we bring is under paid, under utilised, disregarded and has not been recognised by successive governments. We will accept no further disregard and disrespect from the Government of the United Kingdom.
